- Global warming is causing a great threat to the current world which begins with the greenhouse effect, which is caused by the interaction between earth’s atmosphere and incoming radiation from the sun. The amount of heat/smoke produced by earth is outnumbering the natural air condition state, hence the rivers dry up, no rain, glaciers do not melt at timely manner. It is of utmost high time that we should seriously start thinking about preserving natural resources such as rivers and lakes, vegetation and green forests for our future generation as they are in the sorry state, reducing drastically, just to fulfill our materialistic desires resulting in the climate change effect. We need to secure the future by acting in the present. Ancient cities of Kathmandu valley were deliberately planned in raised areas where there was less cultivable land. The edge of the cities was surrounded by green forests, agricultural land and also natural or man-made pond/water bodies to check and balance the micro climate. The building materials like mud, clay and timber were extensively used in the constructions which could be re-used. This defines the same concept that has been proposed here with built-environment on the raised platform and landscape areas at its periphery. The concept, here, has extensively used trees, bushes and the water bodies to constantly reminding ourselves that we need to preserve natural resources for creating an environment for a livable earth. Horticulture can be one of the great solutions for global warming. The reduction of deforestation and forest degradation will help prevent global warming because this also traps heat. The concept of ecocity primarily co-existences with the nature and the built-environment. Ecocity concept thrives when there is a balance between natural environment and built-environment.
