BUILT FORM
A pure geometric rectangular shape has been stylistically treated in volume to create a dynamic form that compliments the elegant corporate business set-up. Created mass and void and the central atrium on the built form makes it even more interesting.
An effort to create an appropriate image of the built environ has been a dominating factor in whole of the design process. The dynamism achieved in the double height entrance porch highlights the continuous motion while maintaining an overall simplicity in visual scenario.
The two-storey high foyer space stands as a strong link between the vertical circulation block and the horizontal access to the ground floor complex. Each of the façade has been designed to serve its purpose. All façades have been extensively treated with the use of vertical louvers to avoid the low angle sun and also for the unwanted glare in the working spaces.
The shape of the building is largely determined by that of the site. Adequate set back has been maintained in each side of the site to incorporate two wheeler surface parking on the side setbacks and a driveway at the front that goes down to double basement for both 2 and 4- wheelers.
LOCATION AND CLIMATE
The building responds to its location and climate both in vertical form and space planning. The room layouts in the building are mostly along the northern and the eastern sides so that ample natural light is received in the workstations during working hours. The vertical circulation areas like lift well and stairwell have been set-aside on the central position of the complex.
ACCOMODATION OF REQUIREMENT
Taking into consideration the requirements provided, the floors designed are based on the calculation of floor area ratio (FAR) that follows an “open space planning” concept with the flexibility to convert spaces as per multiple need and requirement. The design guideline strictly follows the requirements provided. Each of the room has been calculated as per its spatial and functional need before incorporating in the design plan. The central grid has been provided for the service and utilities like wash rooms and circulation with the provision of fire escape on the either sides of the building. Likewise the double basement space for 70 cars and 78 motorbikes has been provided for parking facility. The service areas like toilets have been calculated following a standard norm.
FLEXIBILTY OF PLANNING/ INTERACTIVE WORK ENVIRONMENT
With the provision of a regulated and uniform grid structure, the planning follows a fairly flexible approach. As per the need of the client, the spaces could be altered without much interference to the whole set-up. The lightweight partition with transparent glass makes the spaces more attuned to flexibility with the scope of interactions between space users. Moreover on the intermediate floors there is a wide scope of allocating spaces as per multiple needs due to their open planning concept.
ENERGY EFFICIENY
The design explores the opportunity for maximizing the potential of daily path of the sun to give natural warmth in the winter, to both interior and exterior spaces, and to provide natural lighting to interior spaces. A large atrium has been provided in order to achieve ample amount of light. Every room in the building achieves natural light while working. The vertical and horizontal shading device accentuates the interplay of light and shade on the building exterior as well as protects the interior from the glare. The use of landscapes in and around the building not only brings emphasis on the building exterior, but also helps in cooling effect to the interiors. An energy management system has been proposed to minimize wasteful use of lights and to make maximum use of natural light. This system can save up to 70% of the lighting energy costs. In addition to that this system can enhance employee convenience and comfort. With the available land and catchment area, the project also envisions for rain water harvesting system to balance the water use in the building.
